Testing
Your Drinking Water.
If you decide to test your water yourself DO
NOT purchase a swimming pool test kit.
This will not give you an accurate reading. If you have a company
to come out to
your home, please do not fall victim of scam artist who want to sale you
highly
expensive water filtration units. These scam artists will use a
swimming pool ph
test kit to test your tap water. The amount of chlorine in your
drinking water
will automatically read greater than normal. Please research any
company and verify
their references before agreeing to have them come to your home.
In addition if
you put your finger in the test vial or use your finger to cover the
vial as you
invert the tube this too will cause an elevated reading. Follow
the simple and
easy instruction carefully.
There are so many different types of filters for your drinking water
from tap filters
which fit on your faucet to filters that are whole house unites which
will also
filter your bath water. There are dual filters that will remove
such compounds
for instance lead and chlorine and there are filtration systems, which
have been
designed for well systems. Every water treatment system will have
its advantages
and disadvantages. Before deciding on which system is right for
your needs, thoroughly
researched and investigated each one, then decide on the unit best
suited for your
home. As far as I know, I have not been able to find any
completely comprehensive
water filtration system, which will remove all forms of undesirable
elements from
your tap water.
There are several factors you should consider when choosing a water
filtration system.
First, if you get your drinking water from a private supply, such as a
well, you
should have your water tested at least yearly to ensure that it is safe
from contamination.
You can purchase a water testing kit from your local home hardware store
or plumbing
supply store and test your water yourself, or you can hire a
professional to do
it for you. Depending on where you live, your local heath
department may provide
this service for free. Contact your local Department of Health and
see if they
do provide this service.
In addition to harmful contaminants, there are helpful additives many
municipalities
have added to the water supply, which benefit our health.
Additives such as minerals
and fluoride make your water healthier to drink and you do not want to
filter these
out of your water.
