Purchasing water filters for your refrigerator.

Refrigerator filters are purchased by brand and model number of the refrigerator

Refrigerator filters will remove impurities from your refrigerator water, providing
you with better tasting drinking water and ice.  A refrigerator filter can only be used on refrigerators that come from the manufacture with a water filtration system.  I cannot stress this more.  Please do not try to install a filtration system on your current refrigerator if it did not come with one.
 
When purchasing a replacement refrigerator filters, purchase one only according to the brand name and model number of your fridge.  This information will tell you exactly which filter will fit and provide you with the maximum performance.  To decide which filter will remove the most contaminants, please refer to that product's performance data sheet, which will list the contaminants the filter is certified to remove and at what percentage. 
 
Refrigerator filters should be replaced according to their recommended schedule. By trying to squeeze more use out of your filter, you are actually reducing the optimization of the filter.  The majority of filters are replaced by the amount of gallons of water that is has filtered.  Also remember to read your refrigerator's owners manual it will tell you the location of your filter, and if you have a separate filter for your icemaker.
